Making a mesothelioma compensation claim and the death of Malcolm McLaren

More than 2000 people a year die from mesothelioma. Of that number, there are a large percentage of sufferers who are unaware that they could be eligible to make a mesothelioma compensation claim. The UK currently has the highest rate of mesothelioma, a lung condition caused by exposure to asbestos.

The disease can affect anyone of any age who comes into contact with asbestos dust and has previously led to the deaths of celebrities such as Steve McQueen, Paul Gleason and more recently, Malcolm McLaren.

Malcolm McLaren died from mesothelioma in April 2010 after he was believed to have been exposed to deadly asbestos dust in his London-based clothes shop. The 64-year-old, former Sex Pistols manager, died in a Swiss clinic after a lengthy battle with the asbestos-related disease.

After conventional medicines failed to help the ailing celebrity, McLaren turned to alternative therapy in Switzerland to try to battle the disease, but sadly he died while he was staying at the clinic.

The music legend is believed to have contracted the disease after ripping the ceiling out of his infamous King's Road clothes shop to make it look like it had been "hit by a bomb". While he was creating the look, he accidentally broke through a board of asbestos sheeting which was used in vast quantities during the 70's.

After he had convinced himself he was suffering from lung cancer, McLaren visited his doctor who repeatedly told him he was fine until his left lung filled with fluid in 2009 which led to a diagnosis of the mesothelioma.

As in Malcolm McLaren's case, mesothelioma is almost always fatal and is often not detected until many years after exposure to the asbestos dust that caused it.

If you or a close relative suffers from mesothelioma, you could be eligible to make a compensation claim depending on how you contracted the disease.
