The Action Charter and mesothelioma compensation

Action Mesothelioma Day was inaugurated on February 27 2006 and is a cooperative venture between the British Lung Foundation, various asbestos charities, some personal injury solicitor firms and an assortment of unions. It aims to promote awareness of the deadly asbestos-related cancer as well as the health and mesothelioma compensation needs of its sufferers and their families.

It took place again on February 27 2007 and is scheduled to go-ahead on the same date in 2008. Events will take place throughout the UK highlighting the plight of the thousands of people who die each year from one of Britain's most deadly industrial diseases. Since its first year, the Action Day has become synonymous with white balloons after they were used as a symbol of the human lung and placed in long lines along Tyneside as a moving tribute to all those who have been killed by the disease.

In the Action Day's inaugural year campaigners presented a document known as the Action Mesothelioma Charter to the Houses of Parliament. It gathered over 14,000 signatures and is now viewed as an important symbolic document. In fact, its aims are still being actively encouraged by the British Lung Foundation.

The charter will be of interest to all mesothelioma sufferers and their families, so with this in mind, we have printed it in full:
