One piece of scientific research that mesothelioma sufferers may want to know about suggests that Vitamin C, normally thought of as a benign and useful chemical, may affect chemotherapy drugs.
This study was published in 2008, in Cancer Research, a reputable journal. It does not deal directly with people suffering from an asbestos-related lung cancer, or indeed people at all; rather, it looks at cells in a Petri dish and how they respond to chemotherapy if they have been pre-treated with vitamin C compared to untreated cells.
The results, however, were that the treatment was 30 to 70 percent less successful in the pre-treated cells, suggesting that the vitamin might take the edge off the ability of the treatment's ability to affect cancer cells. If this data were to be replicated in the human body, it might suggest that dosing oneself with vitamin C might not be a good idea.
A suggestion that this might be the case can be provided from the data gathered when the researchers tried experimenting on mice; tumours implanted into the rodents grew faster in those that received vitamin C than in those who did not.
Avoiding vitamin C altogether, of course, has its own risks, including scurvy. For this reason it is important that anyone receiving chemotherapy, whether making a mesothelioma compensation claim or not, should check with a medical professional before adapting their diet or supplement programme.
Mesothelioma sufferers can often benefit from industrial disease solicitors
If you have contracted an asbestos-related disease - also including asbestosis or lung cancer - as a result of your work history, you may be able to make a compensation claim to help you at this difficult time.
Here at YouClaim, we aim to support you in this - and the best way we can do so is by offering our services for free. We have developed a system with our expert panel of UK no win, no fee lawyers that ensures any costs arising in an industrial disease claim are not charged to you, and that our fee in a won case (as most of those we take on are) is charged to your opponent.
Furthermore, our 100 percent compensation promise means that you can expect to receive every penny of damages awarded in a successful asbestos compensation claim.
Being free does not mean that we cut corners on our services; every lawyer on our panel, for example, is governed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, meaning that you can have confidence in being represented by a YouClaim personal injury lawyer.
