Medical negligence lawyers and complication caused by infection

If you have suffered injury, illness or medical complications as a result of poor hygiene standards in a hospital or surgery, our team of medical negligence lawyers may be able to help you secure the complete compensation you deserve.

Surgical hygiene procedure

All UK hospitals have strict hygiene procedure rules, from prescription for the safe disposal of once-use equipment to best autoclaving practice for reusable items. Furthermore, infection control policies for contamination and decontamination issues are an essential part of any efficacious hygiene procedure plan.

Without such practice, patients may be at risk of developing infections and post-surgical complications such as MRSA or Clostridium difficile. In the worst cases, infection may cause serious and disabling injury or death. In any such instance it is wise for those concerned to seek the advice of a medical negligence lawyer.

Neonatal infection

Hospital infections can be particularly distressing when they affect children. When infections occur in neonatal units, the impact can be devastating.

Babies do not have robust immune systems and can be at severe risk from infections, hospital-borne or otherwise.

This was tragically demonstrated in 2012 when an infection of pseudomonas bacteria in the sink taps resulted in the death of three babies at a hospital in Northern Ireland.

Shortly after the deaths, the Northern Ireland health minister confirmed the source of the infections, "I can report that investigations so far have shown that pseudomonas bacteria have been found in a number of taps in the intensive care area of the neonatal unit in the Royal Jubilee Maternity Hospital.

"The Trust Health Estates team are in the process of removing and replacing all taps and related pipe work in the affected area."
