Grandmother beats cancer after being given 18 months to live

Medical staff usually do their jobs very well and succeed in helping many patients, however, occasionally workers fail to do their job properly and those affected may consequently need to make a medical negligence claim.

Cancer sufferers who are told the devastating news that their disease is terminal often decide to live the remainder of their lives to the full, choosing to participate in experiences which they always wished to fulfil.

This is exactly what a 47-year-old grandmother from Warwickshire decided to do when she was informed by doctors that her cancer was terminal and that she had between 12 and 18 months left to live.

In February 2010 a three-inch tumour was discovered in the woman's cervix and she consequently decided to quit her job at a GP surgery. A £30,000 insurance payout was used predominantly to cover the costs of eating out, weekends away and other luxuries to make her life more comfortable.

Her new lifestyle caused her to gain a significant amount of weight and she used the next few months to spend quality time with loved ones and to plan her funeral.

However, in September 2011, the sufferer was given astonishing news – radiotherapy and chemotherapy had been successful and the cancer had disappeared.

Although being given the all clear was excellent news for the woman, she now had to focus on reaching a healthy weight once again and was left in a situation where all the money intended for mortgage repayments, in case of emergency, had been spent

Despite having already celebrated the Christmas which she had assumed would have been her last, the woman was able to forget about the plans she made for her funeral and plan ahead for the life she didn't think she would have.
