Coping with tinnitus through local support groups

Tinnitus can be a highly debilitating condition, keeping you from working to your full potential, or working at all in some cases. If tinnitus does keep you from engaging fully with your work, this can leave you feeling distanced from your colleagues, so it is good to know there are support groups around the UK. These offer a place to find support from fellow sufferers, and - when you are ready - to give support too.

What tinnitus support groups do
Most groups are run by volunteers on a local basis, which means that it can be difficult to give examples of activities that every tinnitus support group takes part in. However, it is fair to say that they all bring sufferers together, often in meetings, but sometimes through the internet.

When there is no group as such, it is sometimes possible to find a person who acts as a central point of contact for tinnitus sufferers in an area. A good list of local groups and contacts is available through the British Tinnitus Association, at www.tinnitus.org.uk.

Some groups go further, maintaining websites, for example, that can promote their activities and collect news stories relating to tinnitus or other types of hearing loss. Others may produce newsletters for their members, or be able to offer guidance in the process of claiming for industrial deafness compensation.

Making a tinnitus claim
A major source of tinnitus and other forms of hearing loss is through insufficient protection from noise at work. If this is responsible for your tinnitus, you may be eligible to make an industrial deafness compensation claim.

A tinnitus claim can be complex, and while your local support group can offer moral support, you will need legal advice and representation in the process of seeking compensation. YouClaim's panel of personal injury solicitors are highly experienced in taking industrial deafness claims to satisfactory conclusions, and each firm we deal with is governed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

We do not charge for advice, nor ask for fees on the tinnitus cases we take on, working purely on a no win, no fee basis. We also guarantee to pass on every penny awarded to you in our 100% compensation promise.

Call our advisors on our free hotline, 0800 10 757 95, to discuss the details of your claim, or contact us through our realtime e-chat facility. If you do not have time to speak to our team at the moment, all you need to do is fill in our call-back form, and someone will call you regarding your tinnitus claim.
