Deafness compensation claims against negligent employers

Unless a person lives in the countryside away from the sound of traffic, it may be difficult to protect from gradual hearing loss during the course of their life. However, there are ways of preventing work-related noise from leading to a deafness compensation claim.

Common noises in a wood shop, for example, can reach around 100 decibels. Exposure to more than 15 minutes of this level of sound is not recommended. At 110 decibels, regular one minute exposures could result in permanent hearing loss.

It is for this reason that working in loud environments without wearing ear defenders is a serious risk to employees' health and welfare.
