As holiday accidents go, having your luxury yacht catch on fire and being forced to jump into shark infested waters in the middle of the night before the vessel blows up from underneath you is a pretty nightmarish scenario.
But this is just what happened to one of Britain's best loved comedians in January 2009.
Griff Rhys Jones, his wife and 13 friends were anchored off the iconic holiday destination that is the Galapagos Islands when catastrophe happened.
One of the holidaymakers said, "We had all gone to our cabins at about 9pm. At about 11pm, I was woken by banging on my window and I heard a voice… saying: ‘Fire. Come on deck now.' I struggled into my jeans and my partner and I went on deck.
"A boat at anchor will always point into the wind. We went to the bow and the boat was just billowing smoke. There was a lot of shouting. Our guide was shouting the boat might blow up. There was diesel for the engines and petrol for the outboard motors on the dinghies, as well as a lot of flammable material.
"Then suddenly someone shouted ‘jump, jump.' When you are given an order like that, you do as you are told. We were all jumping into the water, some people naked, between six and eight minutes after being woken up."
He added that the following day eyewitnesses claimed the area of sea from which they were rescued was "thick" with Hammerhead sharks.
Eventually, the boat sank, along with all possessions belonging to the holiday makers. Luckily no-one was injured in the holiday accident and all holiday makers were flown home shortly after the terrifying incident.
