Every time a personal injury solicitor successfully negotiates a compensation settlement for the victim of a forklift truck accident, thoughts inevitably turn to how best prevent such an accident happening again in the future.
Invariably, this desire will lead to calls for improved distribution of safety literature. With the same desire to reduce the unacceptable number of forklift truck accidents that occur each year in the UK, the Fork Lift Truck Association has published an important piece of safety literature called Employee Safety: Working with Fork Lift Trucks.
The booklet seeks to help inform employers of how to best meet their health and safety responsibilities. David Ellison, the FLTA's chairman, explains, "Understanding the relevant facts is essential for any employer with fork lift trucks operating in the workplace. It places them in a better position to help protect all of their employees, and others, who may come into contact with their trucks."
But the booklet goes beyond merely addressing the responsibilities of employers, it also looks at how employees can safeguard themselves and better realise their rights. Ellison comments again, "Hundreds of employees are left seriously injured by fork lift trucks each year. Many of the injuries sustained lead to disability - and in some cases death. Sadly, many of these employees weren't operating the truck at the time - they just happened to get in the way.
"For their own safety, and that of others, anyone working near a fork lift truck should be familiar with their dangers - and dangerous practices - which are outlined and illustrated clearly in the booklet.
The publication also highlights how some relatively basic steps can help eliminate many of the most serious accidents: those that involve pedestrians. "Pedestrians often don't understand the dangers associated with fork lift operations. Fork lift trucks and pedestrians simply don't mix - and that is the problem," says the chairman.
"Although the best advice is to keep well clear of any fork lift in operation, we are aware that sometimes it's unavoidable. So, we have included some simple and easy-to-remember tips that could save a life - or a limb."
Leading solicitors for cost free forklift truck accident claims
Forklift truck accidents seldom result in minor injury; the victims of such workplace incidents may well be left with lifelong scars and disabilities.
Although compensation cannot take away these injuries, it can help provide for the best possible medical care, while also ensuring that the claimant is awarded sums for loss of earnings, as well as pain and suffering.
If you have suffered an accident at work and believe it to be at least in part the fault of another party, making such a claim is your right and may result in you receiving 100 percent compensation for your injuries.
At YouClaim, all our solicitors are drawn from firms governed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and surpass the definition of "no win, no fee" by, win or lose, protecting the claimant from all possible costs, fees and disbursements.
