Among those workers most at risk of suffering personal injury in a slip accident are delivery drivers and couriers.
This is because such workers are constantly on the move, often passing between different types of floor surface. Additionally, such workers are often required to carry heavy loads, which, as well as increasing the risk of a slip accident, also increase the risk of any such incident resulting in serious injury.
There is also a risk of slip injuries occurring in an accident on the delivery vehicle itself.
This is because although most vehicles have a relatively low slip risk when they are dry, in the event surfaces become wet, the level of slip resistance can be very low and may result in the worker losing his or her footing.
The potentiality for serious injury is particularly high when drivers or workers are unloading a tail lift. These areas can be as much as two metres high, making it essential that the slip risk is both thoroughly assessed and sufficiently mitigated through the implementation of safety aids.
Whether this means introducing handrails and/or slip resistant plates on the tail lift itself will depend on the type of work being performed.
Furthermore, even in the most innocuous-seeming of vehicles, such as standard delivery vans, it is likely to be advisable or necessary to introduce some form of anti-slip service so as to lessen the risk of work injury. Non-slip tapes, plates and paints can all help protect workers, especially in vehicles where there is a risk that the loading area may become wet or oily.
No win, no fee firm YouClaim comments, "Employers have to be sure that they are not endangering health and safety of workers. Part of this involves introducing anti-slip measures where necessary.
"If this has not been done, injured workers may be entitled to claim work accident compensation."
