Having an accident on a construction site is probable according to HSE

One of the most common types of personal injury compensation claim is when a worker needs representation after an accident on a construction site. Housing development, the building industry and all types of construction work have some of the highest risk factors of all trades

Work-related injuries in the construction industry
Each year the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) publish work accident statistics for major trades and industries throughout the UK, including:

  • Agriculture
  • Business and finance
  • Construction
  • Education
  • Extractive and utility supply
  • Health and social work
  • Hotels and restaurants
  • Manufacturing
  • Public administration
  • Transport, storage and communication
  • Wholesale and retail trade

According to the HSE, of the main industry sectors, construction has the third highest number of fatal injuries as a result of work-related activities.

  • Provisional figures for 2008/09 revealed 53 fatal injuries in the construction industry which equates to a rate of 2.5 deaths per 100,000 construction workers; only agriculture and extractive industries (mining and provision of raw materials) have higher fatal injury rates.
  • Despite steadily falling rates of reported major injuries after accidents on construction sites since 1999/2000, the sector still has the highest rate of all major industry groups. The provisional figure for 2009/09 was 254.1 major injuries per 100,000 employees.
  • In relation to other industries, the construction trade had a higher proportion of reported injuries caused by falls from height, falling objects, contact with moving machinery, overturns and collapses, and electricity-related accidents.

If you have suffered personal injury due to an accident on a construction site, and you were not to blame for the occurrence it is your legal right to claim personal injury compensation through the civil courts.
