"Also," he added, "the counterfeit may not have properly finished edges, which could allow it to unravel."
The impact of the scandal
In 2011 it was announced that the companies which had supplied hospitals with the counterfeit mesh were being sued for surgical error compensation by a man who developed a severe infection as a result of their use.
