Friday evening rush hour has never been a great time for road safety, after all, many no win, no fee firms report a disproportionately high car accident injury claim rate for this time of day, but it seems that Friday rush hour, November, is the most accident prone time of all.
This revelation was made in 2010 following the release of a study by an accident compensation company.
Although the definition of "rush hour" has become increasingly broad over the past two decades and is now something of a misnomer, it once referred to only a single hour of peak flow traffic but now describes the hour or several hours at which commuters travel home from work, the study found that the time when people are most likely to become involved in a car accident injury claim precipitate incident is the "rush hour" between 5pm and 6pm on a November Friday.
The study reached this conclusion after examining more than 200,000 road traffic accidents over the past decade, an unconfirmed number of which are likely to have resulted in car accident injury claim litigation.
It is thought that the combination of the clocks going back and wetter, colder road conditions, together with the impatience of many drivers to get wrapped up and warm at home are behind November Friday evenings being the most accident prone time of year.
However, with 9.2% of accidents occurring in November, the month only just outstrips December, in which 8.9% of all crashes occur.
A spokesperson with the company that organised the study commented, "The statistics are just a word of warning at a time when driving conditions start to change for the worse for the winter month.
"However the factors contributing to an accident are so numerous that the best advice is to remain vigilant at all times and to drive to the conditions around you."
