In 2006, a Bristol-based man was severely injured in a road traffic accident. Disabled from the personal injuries he sustained in the crash, the man successfully claimed car crash compensation and won £2.3 million to cover his ongoing medical needs.
The car accident happened on the A361 near Devizes. A car travelling in the opposite direction to the claimant was trying to overtake a lorry when it hit the the Bristol man's vehicle at speed.
The claimant was completely cleared by the presiding judge of any wrong-doing in the accident which allowed for such a high compensation claim to be made.
Following the accident, the claimant was left with permanent disabilities caused by brain damage suffered in the car crash. He had to move into a specially adapted home, requires round-the-clock care and had to give up his job.
The High Court ruled that the claimant should receive a £2.3m lump sum and £145,000 annually for the rest of his life from the at-fault party's insurers.
The money will not only compensate the car crash victim for his loss of earnings as a result of the crash, but will also help to pay for the neuro-rehabilitation, medical treatment and care he needs.
Speaking on behalf of his client, the personal injury lawyer to the claimant said, "Prior to his accident [the claimant] was a bright and determined young man who had his whole life ahead of him.
"He is a remarkable and inspiring young man and we all wish him well for the future."
