Although there is no evidence to suggest that they are the cause of a disproportionate number of car accident injury claims, BMW drivers are considered by the UK motoring public to be the worst on the road.
This revelation was made in a 2009 Auto Trade study, in which BMW drivers were ranked as the worst, closely followed by the drivers of Subarus, Porsches, Audis and Mercedes-Benz, in that order.
One aspect of the study that grabbed the attention of no win, no fee solicitors across the country was the part pertaining to car accident injury claims made between April 2008 and April 2009. During this period 23% of all such claims were made by drivers of Fords, followed by Vauxhall drivers (15%), Volkswagen drivers (12%), Renault drivers (11%) and Peugeot drivers (10%).
While these figures are undoubtedly interesting, it is difficult to infer from them anything significant. After all, Ford has more vehicles on UK roads than any other manufacturer, so it is only natural that it should account for the most accidents.
Interestingly, participants in the study also voted the archetypical White Van Man as the most dangerous motorist in the UK, followed by the young, the old and school-run mums.
Auto Trader's marketing director Matt Thompson comments, "It's good that most motorists recognise bad driving habits, both in themselves and other road users.
"However, the important thing is that motorists change these bad driving habits, because with the rising cost of motoring, it is well worth driving responsibly to stay safe and ensure your insurance premiums stay low."
