The accident occurred after the driver lost control of the car and hit a boulder on the side of the A390, near Liskeard, Cornwall on October 25th, 2003. The bricklayer was sat in the back of the car and was hospitalised for several months after suffering severe spinal injuries which left him paralysed from the waist down.
The compensation amount awarded to the passenger was based on the loss of earnings that the former bricklayer now faces and any specialised equipment that he may require following his injury.
Although it was not immediately reported whether the two other passengers made compensation claims for their injuries, as the driver was found to be at fault for the crash, they may also be eligible to make similar compensation claims for their personal injuries.
