Car accident claims for 3D underwear billboard distractions

If you are pursuing a car accident claim, the chances are the driver who caused the crash was not paying full attention to the road when he or she hit you. Lack of concentration is a major cause of road accidents and is often the result of mobile phone use, eating, drinking or tending to small children. However, as advertisers seek new ways to reach their target markets, billboards are becoming more of a distraction to drivers as they become bigger and more eye-catching.

In 2010, an advertising campaign by Wonderbra caused a stir amongst motoring groups after concerns were raised that it could lead to an increase in car accidents in the surrounding area. The billboard in question featured a 20ft wide 3D cleavage which was positioned near Waterloo station in London to promote the company's £28 Full Effect bra.

The advert was not the first produced by the underwear company to cause controversy. In 1994 another of their billboards, featuring Czech model Eva Herzigova, was blamed for dozens of road accidents in surrounding roads. Despite this, the poster was voted one of the top ten posters of the century.

Speaking at the time the 3D cleavage poster was unveiled, a spokesperson for motoring group the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), said the poster depicting Brazillian Sabraine Banado could be even more dangerous because of its 3-dimensional effect.

A spokesperson for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) had no concerns about the billboard but did monitor the effect the advert had on the road. If a correlation between car crashes and the advert was determined, the underwear company would have been forced to remove the poster.

Losing concentration for even a second can have disastrous consequences and commonly leads to car accidents.

If you are injured in a car accident which was not your fault, you could be eligible to make a car crash compensation claim.
