Although they are highly valued, many of these services are not funded by the NHS. The Great North Air Ambulance service is a registered charity, as is the Thames and Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust, which is currently fund-raising for a second helicopter.

Like any helicopter, there is also a risk of further injury at the scene if anyone comes into contact with rotating blades, but the pilot will normally ensure everyone present is aware of this danger.
