Personal Injury and the dangers of having a vampire boyfriend

Having just finished the first of Stephenie Meyer's hugely successful Twilight novels, it occurred to me just how hazardous it would be to have a vampire as a boyfriend. Throughout the novel, the narrative revolves around the emotional torment of the angelically beautiful Edward Cullen, the vampire that the female protagonist sets her sights on. While he is only too aware of the danger he imposes on her, 'Bella' becomes so love struck by her blood-sucking crush, she becomes rather blasé about the inherent risks involved with dating someone who would rather be slurping on human blood than a Mc Donalds milkshake.

Not only does Bella become so annoyingly besotted with her vampire beau that she is unconcerned by his desire to eat her, she also seems rather nonchalant to the work-related injuries that could, and do, befall her as she becomes involved in his world of vampire sleighing and fighting other creatures that should only be faced in nightmares.

While concerns have to be raised other Bella's mental status after she seems all too eager to join her boyfriend's vampire gang and truly become one of them, I do wonder if maybe some kind of preventative safety equipment could be made to help protect her.

Perhaps a garlic-infused neck brace of some kind may help matters slightly. While it may be slightly restrictive and stinky, surely this would be a small price to pay for the personal injuries she could face without it? As for the other work-related injuries she may face from what other monsters may appear in her future (I haven't read the other books yet but I imagine if there are vampires there's bound to be werewolves, Cyclops and other mythical baddies), she will need some other form of protective wear.

While steel-capped boots may prevent any broken toes incurred from clumsy giants or feet-stomping ogres, and fire-retardant clothing may protect her from the likes of any dragons, they are perhaps not the most befitting attire for an attractive and fashion-conscious young protagonist.

Therefore if the novel allows for the realisation of vampires, perhaps it can allow for invisible force fields as well.

I have to be honest and say that I'm not overly concerned with Bella's welfare - like most of the female population I am wildly jealous of actress Kristen Stewart who plays Bella in the film and gets to kiss the lusciously handsome Robert Pattison (Edward). For my own selfish reasons, it would almost be better if she did die as then Edward would once more be available. However, as I am as likely to meet Robert Pattison as I am his fictitious character, I will have to be content to live my love for Edward vicariously through Bella, so perhaps it is in my own interests that she stays alive (as a human or otherwise).

Therefore I do wish she would follow the HSE guidelines for safety at work if she is going to continue her rampages with the vampires on a more regular basis so that she can prevent another work-related personal injury.

Can I claim?
