Should an accident while on holiday be followed by a holiday

It may be something of a cliché, but for many the joke that holidays can be so exhausting, stressful and traumatic that holidaymakers need a holiday just to recover is undeniably true. And, of course, provided they recover soon enough, this is particularly true for those who have suffered an accident while on holiday.

Sadly, such holiday accidents are not uncommon and have been experienced by as many as every one in two holidaymaking UK residents. Indeed, although all may not have experienced an accident while on holiday, the average British holidaymaker claims to have been on two holidays that could aptly be described as "disastrous", according to a study by a UK travel insurance company.

The same study revealed that 40% of Brits admit to having been so upset on their holiday that they have been left in floods of tears, while 14% say that they have had a holiday experience so bad that it has caused them to return home at the earliest possible opportunity.

"Brits often spend months saving up for their yearly holiday abroad and really look forward to a relaxing break in the sunshine," said a spokesperson from the company which commissioned the study."

She added, "So it is understandable that when something goes wrong such as finding out the accommodation isn't as expected, or the aeroplane is delayed by several hours people will be disappointed.

"Whereas you can recover from a hangover, stay out of the sunshine if you get a bit burnt, and make up with a friend or partner after an argument, other holiday disasters can't be solved as easily."

Claim compensation for an accident while on holiday
Since the mass advent of UK-organized package holidays and the introduction of Europe-wide travel legislation, such as the Package Travel, Package Holiday and Package Tour Regulations 1992 and the 4th European Union Motor Directive 2003, it has been much easier for UK residents to claim compensation for injuries sustained while holidaying abroad.

If you have suffered personal injury while on a package holiday or tour operator-organized holiday, it may be possible for you to claim 100% compensation for your pain, distress, injury, related expenses and loss of earnings.
