The Awards scheme is long-established and represents the summit of workplace safety awards. The RoSPA awards are comprised of several different categories. The first of these are the Achievement Awards. These are handed out to organisations able to demonstrate outstanding levels of health and safety management. Four Achievement Awards are available: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit.
In addition, there are several other categories of award, including the Industry Sector Awards (for the best managed industry), the RoSPA MORR™ Awards (for road-related work safety) and the RoSPA Training Trophy.
The most prestigious of all the awards is the Sir George Earle Trophy, which, since 1956 has been awarded to the best sector winner.
In 2009 the Awards received a record 1,700 entries across all categories, most which, it can be assumed, had below average rates of accident work compensation litigation.
