The RoSPA Awards - from the accident at work compensation specialists

Accident at work compensation cases often make the headlines, and rightly so, they are newsworthy and the reporting of them helps highlight both the rights of workers and responsibilities of employers. However, while such cases are useful in providing disincentive against negligent working practices, positive recognition of good health and safety practices is one of the best ways of providing incentive for employers to strive towards exemplary health and safety standards.

One such positive recognition is provided by the annual Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' Occupational Health & Safety Awards. The Awards scheme is long-established and represents the summit of workplace safety awards. It is open to all organisations, from small and medium sized enterprises to large corporations, as well as all possible industry sectors.

The RoSPA awards are comprised of several different categories. The first of these are the Achievement Awards. These are handed out to organisations able to demonstrate outstanding levels of health and safety management. Four Achievement Awards are available: Gold, Silver, Bronze and Merit.

In addition, there are several other categories of award, including the Industry Sector Awards (for the best managed industry), the RoSPA MORR™ Awards (for road-related work safety) and the RoSPA Training Trophy.

The most prestigious of all the awards is the Sir George Earle Trophy, which, since 1956 has been awarded to the best sector winner.

In 2009 the Awards received a record 1,700 entries across all categories, most which, it can be assumed, had below average rates of accident work compensation litigation.

If you or your organization would like to enter the awards, information about how to do so can be found here.
