Accident in Scotland rates hoped to fall after safety video postings

Due to the number of walkers the Scottish Highlands attracts, hiking accidents in Scotland are unfortunately fairly common. Certain areas are renowned for their treachery due to their rugged terrain or their susceptibility to extreme weather conditions. While locals are able to avoid such locations thanks to their knowledge of the area, tourists to the region may not be so well informed and may unknowingly put themselves into danger.

With this in mind, the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCoS) has posted a rundown of accident black spots in the hills on a video sharing website. The video includes a briefing from the council's safety officer Heather Morning who warns of the dangers of the activity. The advice is particularly poignant for her after she experienced a close encounter while out hiking with a friend when lightning struck just above them, narrowly missing the pair.

While many tourists often choose to walk the Highlands as part of a guided trek which should be led by an experienced walker who is knowledgeable of the area, prospective walkers should still familiarise themselves with the video to ensure that they are fully prepared for the hazards that walking in the Highlands can bring.

As well as including an informative video on dangerous areas, the MCoS have also posted videos about the dangers of ticks and walking in wet weather.

Such advice could help prevent the numerous personal injuries that befall hikers in Scotland every year who are often unaware and ill-prepared for the dangers that hiking in the Highlands can involve.

If you have been involved in an accident in Scotland that was not your fault, you could be able to make a claim for your personal injury.
