What is pleural thickening?
Pleural thickening is a benign condition which can cause symptoms such as breathlessness, unlike pleural plaques, which have no symptoms. This is because the condition is a type of “fibrosis” or scarring which extends along both sides of the pleura (the two layered membrane lining the lungs), including the visceral pleura next to the lung.
