If you have been diagnosed with pleural thickening you could be entitled to compensation
Recent changes to UK law mean that a diagnosis of pleural thickeningmay no longer mean that you are entitled to claim compensation from your employer, provided it can be proven that your employer is to blame.Scottish law-makers, however, are working to overturn this.
Pleural thickening is seen as fairly conclusive evidence that you have been exposed to asbestos in the past. Having developed pleural thickening, you may experience difficulty breathing and in time this may reduce your quality of life. This industrial illness can also cause huge psychological stress; sufferers may live in fear that they could develop a more serious asbestos-related disease, such as mesothelioma, either of which can enable a sufferer to make a compensation claim.
At YouClaim we can offer you free legal advice and help you to make a personal injury claim.
What is pleural thickening?
Pleural thickening is a benign condition which can cause symptoms such as breathlessness, unlike pleural plaques, which have no symptoms. This is because the condition is a type of “fibrosis” or scarring which extends along both sides of the pleura (the two layered membrane lining the lungs), including the visceral pleura next to the lung. Pleural thickening may be spread over a large area and therefore restrict the lungs. The scarring of the pleura is caused by asbestos fibres piercing the lining of the lungs as they make their way into the pleura.
