Salon customer could claim personal injury compensation
A woman who suffered eye injuries during a session on a sunbed may consider making a personal injury compensation claim.
Julie Wilmshurst paid a visit to the Melody Ann salon in Hawkswood Road, Halisham, in March last year and suffered severe injuries to her eyes.
Ms Wilmshurst sustained the personal injuries from wearing the protective goggles, which had been cleaned with a hazardous disinfectant.
She decided to contact health and safety inspectors at Walden District Council who then charged the owner of the salon, Melody Ann Goymer, with offences of failing to provide adequate health and safety training for members of staff.
Persecuting on behalf of the council, Geoff Johnson, said that the sunbed goggles had been cleaned with Marvicide, a chemical used for cleaning hard surfaces.
"There was a specific hazard warning on the container that it should not come into contact with the eye." He said.
The salon in Halisham admitted to the offences at Eastbourne Magistrates' Court and was fined 7,500.
Ms Wilmshurst may consider making a personal injury compensation claim following the successful fine by Walden District Council and may contact personal injury solicitors in the near future to make a no win, no fee claim.
