It is thought that there could be claims for bus accident compensation after a bus smashed into a lamppost in Ipswich town centre.
Although the bus was travelling very slowly through the town centre, the impact of the crash caused the lamppost to fall on to the balcony of a local caf bar. The bus also struck live power cables and EDF energy had to be called out to deal with the situation. These incidents could have both had significant implications for both the bus passengers and passers by.
This road accident caused a great inconvenience to shoppers and locals as traffic around the town was delayed. However, local businesses were determined not to let it interfere with them and the owner of the cocktail caf that the lamppost smashed into said, "My son was here at the time and apparently the whole building moved about a foot to one side when it hit.
"We are now in the process of getting the council's insurance details. This will not affect business. We will remain open as usual."
The bus's windscreen was smashed during the accident and, according to witnesses, the bus driver was unable to open the doors for several minutes because they were wedged shut.
All seven bus passengers and the driver were left shaken after the bus accident. One 39-year-old passenger recounted, "I was looking out of the window and then there was a massive bang.
"I was pushed forward and banged my chest. It was quite a shock. There were seven people on the bus, who were all quite old but they were all OK."
Fortunately, there were no serious passenger injuries as a result of the bus crash but bus accident compensation claims may still be sought for whiplash injuries and minor wounds.
Unclear of the cause of the bus crash, managing director for Ipswich Buses told the Ipswich Evening Star, "We are still looking at the circumstances surrounding the accident and the driver is being examined by a doctor.
"Fortunately it was travelling at less than walking pace it had just pulled away from a red light and no one was seriously hurt."
So far, it has not been reported who was responsible for the accident and whether any of the passengers will be employing the expertise of no win, no fee solicitors to make compensation claims.
