Terror car crash causes chaos

A father and his two young children were lucky to survive a horrific car accident after they were hit at over 100mph by a vehicle travelling the wrong way on a motorway in Lancashire, police have revealed.

A nine-year-old boy was rushed to hospital with a serious personal injury and his 43-year-old father broke both legs and suffered a neck injury in the road accident. It is thought that the other passenger, an eleven-year-old girl, escaped with only minor injuries and is being cared for by relatives. The driver of the Renault Megane travelling against the flow of traffic, a 45-year-old male care worker from Bolton, was also taken to hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Police have refused to comment on the possibility of drink-driving being a factor in the car accident, but it is believed that the Renault travelled south for fifteen miles on the northbound carriageway of the M6. Several drivers have reported that they were forced to swerve to avoid the oncoming car, before it eventually collided with a Vauxhall Vectra carrying the father and his two children.

Both cars were reduced to wrecks in the collision, and emergency crews used high-pressure cutting equipment to reach the casualties. The northbound carriageway was closed between junctions 26 and 27 for six hours after the car accident while police investigators collected evidence.

Inspector Yates of Greater Manchester Police said, “He was seen travelling the wrong way down the fast lane at some speed before the collision. I expect the motorway was fairly busy at that time of day.”

Police have asked anyone who saw the car accident to contact them as soon as possible.
