Skiing accident claims warning
Skiers are being warned to get winter sports insurance before they take to the snowy slopes of the Alps this Christmas. Thousands of skiers will be injured on the pistes this year and many of these will have to pay for their injuries to be treated, as well as having to pay for replacement equipment.
Many skiers going to Europe believe that their E111 will be enough to cover any accident they might have, but this will not cover ambulance costs, and outpatient services may not be available for people with injuries such as broken bones.
Winter sports insurance can cover medical treatment, damaged or stolen equipment and belongings such as ski passes, as well as granting compensation for ruined holidays through piste closures, but 70% of skiers fail to secure any insurance before they take to the slopes.
Skiers without insurance who have accidents are increasingly turning to personal injury claims to recover their losses and get compensation for their injuries. There have been successful claims against skiwear manufacturers for faulty goods that have caused accidents, as well as against other skiers who have caused a collision.
Personal injury claims for accidents abroad can take longer and be more complex than claims for accidents in the UK because of differences between countries in laws and language.
However, it is possible for skiers who have been injured by another person’s negligence to recover compensation through a specialist personal injury claim firm that has experience and knowledge of such claims.
