Rugby player James Lloyd-Jones will not be able to play for the remainder of the season and may not be able to play ever again after finding out that he broke his neck eight months previous.
Lloyd Jones suffered a neck injury on the pitch back in May, 2005. The Stourbridge wing was involved in a collision with a Herefordshire player at the Twickenham stadium while playing for the North Midlands in the County Shield final, and has suffered neck pain as a result ever since.
Lead to believe that he had sustained whiplash injuries, Lloyd Jones was not X-rayed for eight months, despite making several visits to the hospital. Finally he was diagnosed with a neck injury when the Stourbridge club doctor urged him to go for an X-ray.
Lloyd Jones could not believe his luck. He could have easily sustained further serious personal injuries such as a spinal cord injury since he has continued to train with his neck injury all these months. He states: ‘I was advised at the time and again when I went off to hospital that I had only suffered a whiplash injury. The specialist has now advised me not to play rugby again but I am seeking a second opinion in the hope that I might be able to continue my rugby career.’
