Vickery's injury back again

England prop, Phil Vickery could be facing a long while off the pitch due to a recurring back injury that returned in January 2006.

Vickery has already undergone two operations for his back injury and it is thought that the problem is being caused by a recurrent disc protrusion.

Gloucester are unsure when the player will be match fit but his injury is being monitored and treated. But it is clear that Vickery, capped 47 times, will not be able to play as part of this year’s Six Nations squad.

Vickery helped bring England to victory in the 2003 World Cup but has been unfortunate with his share of personal injuries. Other recent injuries include a broken arm last year and a fractured eye socket.

Concerns for this player's future are heightened since former Gloucester and England front-row, Trevor Woodman, was forced to retire following a similar back injury.

England's head coach Andy Robinson, said "I am disappointed for Phil, because he is an outstanding member of the squad - and we hope to see him back soon."

Can I claim?
