Motorcheck system to reduce car accident claim fraud

Motorcheck has developed an instant reporting system to help beat fraudulent accident compensation claims.

Motorcheck provides a service whereby they check the details of cars to insurers, ensuring that details given are correct, reducing the chance that drivers can fraudulently claim accident compensation.

Personal digital assistants (PDAs) have been provided to inspectors so that vehicle details can be communicated to insurance companies quickly and accurately.

Many fraudulent car accident claims are made regarding a vehicle that does not exist or is different from the specifications that were given to insurers. A survey by Motorcheck found that 66% of drivers had not given the correct details of the car to their insurance company.

While in many cases an honest mistake had been made, there were certainly some that were not. Motorcheck found that in 2% of car accident claims, the car concerned had already been sold, stolen or written off.

Markus Schmidt, the general manger of Motorcheck, said: “The system helps the insurer to prevent fraud at the underwriting stage, rather than having to detect it after a claim is made.”
