Man left with head injuries after brick attack
A man who hurled a brick through a car windscreen and caused a serious head injury to a passenger has been jailed for four and a half years.
19-year-old Ghulam Umar Farooq, from Little Lever in Bolton, committed the unprovoked attack in the summer of 2005, launching the missile at a passing Toyota Corolla as he stood on the pavement. It smashed through the windscreen and hit 21-year-old Rizwan Atcha, causing severe personal injuries. Luckily, the assault did not cause a potentially disasterous road traffic accident.
Atcha has not yet fully recovered from the incident and after the trial at Bolton Crown Court, his family admitted the last six months had been “horrendous.” They also said, “Rizwan received serious head injuries which put him in a critical state. The road to recovery is going to be a long process for him.
We would like to thank our family and friends and the police and especially Detective Sergeant Keith Ishewood for his help and support.”
After sentencing Detective Inspector Alex Millet of Bolton CID commented, “I am pleased that we have seen justice done and I hope this will help Rizwan to move on and start to rebuild his life.”
