Hyundai Getz neck protection accolade
The Hyundai Getz has been praised by NRMA Insurance for its active head restraint, which can prevent neck injury in the event of a car accident
The Getz helps to prevent neck injury by installing a head restraint system that deploys automatically if there is a car crash. Whiplash is the most common neck injury to be seen in car accidents, and is caused when the neck is snapped backwards and forwards extremely fast, causing soft tissue damage.
Head of Research for NRMA Insurance, Robert McDonald, says: “Hyundai need to be congratulated for fitting the ‘Getz’ with such an important safety feature. If Hyundai can offer an active head restraint in a fair priced small car then we can expect others to follow suit.”
Research party funded by the same body found that only 15% of cars were equipped with head restraints that offered good protection against neck injury and 40% were classed as having poor protection.
Other cars that fared well in neck injury prevention include all Volvos, all Saabs and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
