A family fighting for personal injury compensation for their disabled son have been awarded £4m in a High Court ruling.
Karl and Natalie Power’s son, Jack, who was born in 1994, suffers from cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair, although his mental faculties are preserved.
The personal injury compensation claim was brought against an obstetrician who failed to prescribe steroids at the time of Jack’s birth. The obstetrician, Peter Cass, denied that he was liable for the birth injury.
Mr and Mrs Power both gave up successful careers to devote themselves to caring for Jack, and the judge recognised this, calling their dedication to their son a “tribute to humankind.”
The solicitor representing Jack, Claire Fazan, commented on the success of the personal injury compensation claim: “Jack’s parents are enormously relieved that the case has finished and that Jack will now have the funds that will ensure he gets the care and equipment that he will need for the rest of his life in order to maximise his potential.”
