Irish farmers want compensation for walkers on land

Farmers have been shouting at ramblers to ‘get off their land’ for years but The Irish Cattle and Sheepfarmers’ Association have held up their pitch forks. They are calling for those farmers affected to be able to claim compensation for the inconvenience.

The farmers feel that the perpetual invasion of privacy is just too much to tolerate and want to claim compensation to the value of a house site for allowing walkers to access their property.

Malcolm Thompson, president of ICSA says: ‘There are certain farmers in particularly scenic areas where the number of hill walkers walking across their ground is causing a problem for them.

They should be able to claim compensation. They have lost their privacy and the amount of compensation should be in the region of the value of a site in that area.’

Can I claim?
