Zurich reveal £250m yearly compensation claims cost to public services

Zurich Municipal have revealed a first look at the amount public liability compensation claims are costing public services.

It is thought that personal injury compensation claims and material damage compensation claims outlay around £250m for local government and insurance companies every year.

Zurich state that this estimation includes compensation awarded to both genuine and fraudulent claimants. However, the cost of investigating compensation claims is not taken into account and it is genuine claimants that suffer the consequences of fraudsters.

Iwan Borszcz says this on behalf of the company: ‘Zurich municipal has been working on behalf of customers to ensure genuine claimants receive the service they deserve, but considerable time is often wasted dealing with what turn out to be spurious, and even imaginative, compensation claims.’
