The Association of British Insurers wants to fast track personal injury cases
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) wants personal injury cases under £25,000 to be fast tracked in order for claims to be settled in a shorter space of time. It currently takes three years for some compensation claims to be settled, under the new scheme it would only take six months. This would also mean that people who are making relatively small claims will not lose a large proportion of their compensation to fees and legal costs.
The ABI estimates that for a claim of £5,000 almost half is lost to legal costs, that’s 93p for every £1 that the person receives. Guidelines will be published about the amount that can realistically be received for each personal injury case. Courts will also be given greater powers to reject exaggerated personal injury insurance claims.
