Blackpool council shell out more than £1m on compensation for pavement injuries

Blackpool Council has been hit with a massive compensation bill arising from 135 personal injury claims brought against them. The injury claims arose from just 5 of the worst footpaths in Blackpool. The Council is now set to spend £210,000 on repairs to footpaths in the vicinity and blames so called compensation culture for the large sums that they are now responsible for paying out.

A cabinet member from the Council said that “Over the last few years we have tried to address the problem of damaged pavements but there is never enough money to do everything. We are also coming down strongly on fraudulent claims and if people are making a fraudulent claim, our message is don’t expect to get away with it.”

Compensation specialist Rob Wainwright states that if people have suffered a genuine accident then they have every right to make a personal injury claim against the person or organisation caused the personal injury. He also said that “The fact that people are now more aware of the fact that they can make an accident compensation claim is making the world a safer place.”
