There are many ways in which a rider may suffer motorbike injury, but one of the hazards which can be avoided by bikers is road-side puddles.
Not only can a puddle cause a bike to skid, leading to the rider being thrown from the machine or trapped under it, it can also be dangerous because riders try to steer around it for the very reasons just mentioned.
If a motorcyclist is lucky, they will see a puddle, steer round it, and continue their journey without incident.
If they are unlucky they will not have enough time to look in their mirrors before taking evasive action, and be involved in an accident with another road user.
Because riders occupy a much smaller percentage of the road width than larger vehicles, they should be able to safely avoid most obstacles by noticing them in good time and changing their position on the road.
However, if the obstacle takes up a large part of the highway or the motorcyclist does not notice a smaller hazard in time to safely manoeuvre their bike away from it, they may panic and either take their vehicle onto the other side of the road, or suddenly move from the pavement-side into the centre of the road in front of a car.
The severity of the injuries sustained by a rider who has come off of their bike after failing to safely avoid an obstacle, such as a puddle, will depend on many variables.
The age and general health of the rider and what personal protective clothing they were wearing will have great bearing on how much damage a crash will cause the victim.
The speed at which the biker was riding, whether or not the rider was thrown off the machine and whether other road users collided with the rider following the initial accident will also have a major impact on the condition the rider may be left in.
If you have sustained an injury in a motorbike accident which was not your fault, you could be eligible to make a compensation claim against the individual, organisation or company liable for the incident.
