The increase in motorbike accidents was one causal factor in a 2009 review of speed limits on Sussex roads.
The local authorities in both East and West Sussex considered reducing speed limits on single-lane carriageways from 60mph to 50mph after an increase in the number of fatal road traffic accidents on the county's roads.
Government figures released in June of that year stated that 78 people were killed on Sussex roads in 2008 which represented an increase of 16% on the 67 road deaths in 2007.
Despite motorcycles accounting for only 4% of the road traffic, one in four deaths were as a result of a motorbike accident.
And the day before the figures were reported in the press a motorcycle accident claimed another victim when the rider, in his 40s, collided with a lorry on the A285 at Halnaker, near Chichester in West Sussex.
A spokesperson for West Sussex County Council said, "There are roads where the accident levels are unacceptably high.
"The problem areas are single carriageway roads that are wiggly, where people can still do 60mph legally.
"We are constantly reviewing the safety and speed limits within the county. In terms of a blanket review, it's certainly something we will not rule out."
