The Department for Transport's THINK! Motorcycle Academy website is at the forefront of campaigning media striving to prevent motorbike accidents.
In February 2009, a London Consultancy was awarded the contract to revamp the internet based information and awareness site.
The firm's director, said, "Having worked on [helmet safety scheme] Sharp and for Yamaha, we've got a good knowledge of the sector and of DfT policies on safety, which I think helped us win the contract."
The brief for the website's update was to provide "easily accessible, understandable, clear information" relating to motorcycle safety that would help in the prevention of motorbike accidents amongst all riders and not just the "super-bike" riders' group which the old website aimed its information at.
The spokesperson added, "The majority of accidents happen with super-bikes on the road, so the idea is to promote motorcycle safety, targeting this rider while opening up to a broader audience that includes the urban leisure rider."
"Part of the brief is to come up with ways of getting more interesting user-generated content on to the site. We're considering ways users can send in pictures when they're at [motorbike] race meetings; or having a bike guru who people can text for advice and information. Other things we're looking at are ‘top five' suggestions, which could be a five-star-rated helmet or the top five bike routes within the UK and Europe."
The new THINK! Motorcycle Academy website went live in April 2009.
Motorbike accidents do happen
Despite road safety campaigning, motorbike riders do get involved in road crashes. The lack of protection afforded to a motorcyclist makes them susceptible to personal injury in even the most minor of collisions. If you have been involved in a motorbike accident or have sustained a motorcycle injury through no fault of your own you may be able to make a no win no fee compensation claim.
When you call our free UK helpline on 0800 10 757 95 or fill in an online claim form our experienced legal advisors will determine if you are eligible to claim and, if applicable, you will be assigned an accident claim solicitor who will look after your case.
Making a personal injury claim with YouClaim is entirely risk free as we work on a no win, no fee basis. This means, win or lose, you will not have to pay a penny for our services and in a won case, which most of ours are, you will receive 100 per cent of the compensation. If you need time we can call you back later, just let us have a few details about your motorbike accident and we will do the rest.
