Nonagenarian helps reduce motorbike accident claim

When it comes to reducing the risk of having to make a motorbike accident claim, regular training courses are a brilliant means of ensuring you keep improving your skills and remain up-to-date with the latest driving regulations.

At 93, many people will have given up driving a car let alone a motorbike. However, in 2010, a 93-year-old motorbike rider fronted a safety campaign to raise awareness amongst bikers about the need to regularly refresh their skills.

Despite being one of the country's oldest riders, the elderly motorbiker still takes to the roads more than 70 years after he bought his first bike in 1937. While he boasts more than half a century's worth of experience, the pensioner is anything but complacent about his biking skills.

Speaking of his riding, the nonagenarian commented, "I've always been pretty confident on the road but I've got to think about my age and be more careful."

The Ludham based widower was chosen to front the 2010 'Hugger campaign' which promotes motorbike safety across Norfolk. The campaign is aimed at reducing the number of deaths and serious motorbike accidents by offering training to help with riding safety and to encourage other road users to see motorcyclists in a more positive light.

The 93-year-old's face will now appear on the back of Norfolk's buses, in newspapers, televisions and on road signs. Chairman of Think Norfolk's publicity group, Guy McCurley, said the team was committed to lowering the number of accidents involving motorbikes even further to ensure that riders like the 93-year-old will remain safe on the roads.
