Don't drink-drive and avoid a motorbike accident

Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol is incredibly dangerous, not to mention illegal, regardless of which type of vehicle the driver is in control of. If a person was to sustain a personal injury as a consequence of another motorist drink-driving, they may make a car or motorbike accident claim.

Although the dangers of drink driving are widely known and publicised, some motorists still take the risk as they consider themselves to be in a safe state to control a vehicle. However, alcohol seriously affects the consumer's judgement and abilities.

The law states that a motorist must not attempt to drive if their alcohol/breath level is higher than 35 microgrammes to 100 millilitres of breath, or a blood alcohol level of more than 80 milligrammes to 100 millilitres of blood.

The affects of alcohol on a person reduces their co-ordination and slows down reactions, making them significantly more likely to cause a road accident if they were to drive. Even, if a driver is below the legal limit, they may still feel a false sense of confidence and pose a threat to other road users and pedestrians.

If a motorcyclist experiences a false sense of confidence they are likely to behave in a different way to how they would if they were sober. When a motorcyclist does not pay proper attention to the road around them, he or she may cause themselves or another person to sustain a serious personal injury.

The best way to ensure that alcohol consumption does not hinder a motorcyclist's driving is for riders not to drink any alcohol at all – even a small amount of alcohol can affect a motorcyclist's ability to drive safely. Alternatively, if a person does choose to drink, they should arrange another form of transport.
