Anti-social riding and motorcycle accident claims
13/12/2010

There is no doubt that there is a strong correlation between anti-social motorbike riding and an increased likelihood of riders who engage in this practice being named as an at-fault party in a motorcycle accident claim.

Indeed, anti-social riding can in itself be a dangerous practice that is hazardous to other road users, whether pedestrians, car drivers, public transport users or other motorcyclists.

Anti-social motorcycling can take many forms. It may be aggressive, excessively speedy or illegal use of roads and motorways or it may be the use of footpaths and bridleways for the illegal use of motorbikes.

Such "rogue motorcycling" brings with it an obvious and very real accident risk of the kind that could easily result in both perpetrators and innocent people sustaining personal injury, particularly to young children and the elderly.

Time and again, police focus specialist operations on targeting this minority of motorcyclists who, by riding anti-socially and illegally, directly endanger the lives of innocent members of the public.

A spokesperson from Norfolk Police comments, "There are still some motorcyclists, however, who won't acknowledge what they have done is wrong and still think they are the best riders in the world."

While a member of the team from the Campaign Against Rogue Motorcyclists adds his voice, saying, "It is important to remind anyone even considering buying a motorbike, scooter, mini-moto or go-ped that driving it in an anti-social manner and causing a danger to other people is against the law.

"Anyone caught driving one of these bikes in an irresponsible way will be given a notice that states if they are found again with the bike in the next year - their bike will be taken away."

However, it is essential to remember that rogue motorcyclists represent only a tiny fraction of riders and, as such, should never be used to prejudice a motorcycle accident claim.
