Examining bulldozer construction accidents

Bulldozers are used on construction sites to remove dirt, rocks, trees and other debris. They are also used to level ground in preparation for building work.

The size and weight of a bulldozer plays a large part in determining how dangerous a construction accident will be. A heavy load coming down on a part of the human body, such as an arm or a leg, can swiftly crush bones and organs.

Bulldozer construction accident personal injuries can include head injuries, crush injuries and broken bones.

The case of the husband of one of our no win, no fee claim clients provides a useful though tragic example of a bulldozer construction accident. While working as a driver he was injured in the preparation of a road bed. He was using the bulldozer clear trees when a hydraulic line to the right hand side of the front hydraulic cylinder ruptured, spraying hydraulic fluid onto the engine manifold and into the driver's compartment.

The hydraulic fluid burst into flames when it touched the hot manifold and the fire surrounded the driver, who died from his burn injuries.

Having the right safety equipment
To avoid bulldozer construction accidents where the vehicle rolls over and crushes the driver, manufacturers should install rollover protective structures called ROPS as standard equipment. Adequate warnings of these types of hazards must be given to drivers of bulldozers.

Construction companies are required to inspect equipment and provide safety training for all employees who operate heavy machinery. Manufacturers must design equipment that is safe and carry out necessary safety procedures. Despite all of these safety provisions, bulldozer construction accidents can still occur.
