If your name is Douglas or Margaret you are much less likely to be making a car crash compensation claim than if your name is Luke or Lauren.
These unusual statistics have come about through an analysis by a vehicle accident insurance company of the names of more than 500,000 people involved in claims.
Lukes were 21% more accident-prone than the average male driver and motorists called Lauren were 24% more likely to be involved in a road traffic accident than an average female motorist.
Other names which seemed to attract bad luck or bad judgement were Sam, Ben, Daniel and Joseph in that order for men, while the women's ranking was Danielle, Jessica, Leanne and Natalie.
At the opposite end of the safe driving roll were men called Douglas, with a 43% less chance of being involved in a crash, followed by Raymond, Iain, Gordon and Trevor.
Margarets were on a similar level at 44% below average then Ann, Lesley, Anne and Wendy.
A spokesman for the insurance company said the results showed a definite trend but there was no obvious reason for the difference although age might be a factor as the names at most risk of making a car crash compensation claim are popular among younger drivers.
